The stone is of rectangular form and is finely carved around the palette with a border of sinuous dragons amidst swirling clouds. The recessed area of the palette is carved with a circular orb containing a yellow 'eye' surrounded by wispy clouds. The hollowed base is carved with eight cylinders in high relief, each centred with an 'eye' and surrounded at the base by clouds. One side of the stone is incised with a long poetic inscription, ending with the characters Zheng Ming ming, 'by Zheng Ming'. The opposite side bears three seals of the artist.
6¼ in. (15.9 cm.) wide, jade-inset wood cover, Japanese wood box
