The first recorded owner of this painting, William A’Court, the first Lord Heytesbury, formed a notable collection of Spanish pictures when serving as British Ambassador extraordinary at Madrid in 1822-4. His collection included Bartolomé Esteban Murillo's Two Women at a Window, now in the National Gallery of Art, Washington.
