Nicholson and wife Barbara Hepworth worked together to bring a period of innovation in the British textile industry during the 1930s. In collaboration with the company Edinburgh Weavers, they produced a collection of woven fabric designs entitled 'Constructivist', issued in 1937. The present design was conceived circa 1933. (cf. The Rentsch Collection, The Alan Cristea Gallery, catalogue no.10).
