The combination of thick, dark outlines fluidly drawn with the brush, set against a more delicately rendered background, is characteristic of Furnerius's draughtsmanship. A comparable juxtaposition can be seen in his River landscape with a bridge in the Pushkin Museum in Moscow (V. Sadkov, C. Dumas and T. Folmer-von Oven, Netherlandish, Flemish and Dutch Drawings of the XVI-XVIII centuries and Belgian and Dutch drawings of the XIX-XX centuries, Amsterdam, 2010, no. 191). We are grateful to Peter Schatborn for having suggested the attribution to Furnerius.
