Prospective buyers should be aware that the import… 显示更多 Gérald Genta was one of the most creative watch designers of the past fifty years. Born in Geneva in May 1931, Genta was imbued not only with an Italian flair for design, but also with a meticulous and rigorous technical approach, all qualities inherent to the Swiss watchmaking tradition. After working for Universal Genève SA, which at the time had been one of the most recognized manufactures for its chronographs, he has created a considerable number of iconic timepieces for prestigious brands, including the Royal Oak (Audemars Piguet, 1970), the Nautilus (Patek Philippe, 1976), the Constellation (Omega, 1959), The Ingenieur SL (IWC, 1976), the Pasha (Cartier, 1984) and the Bulgari Bulgari (Bulgari, 1975) and The King Midas, the famous model worn by Elvis Presley (Rolex, 1970/71) ; his exceptionnal style having always been characterised by his perpetual desire to capture time within fabulous showcases. It was also him who first introduced the then revolutionary idea of stainless steel for luxury sports watches. In addition to contributing significantly to the designs of Swiss luxury watch brands, he formed in 1969, Gerald Genta, his own highly successful watch manufacture. Some of Genta's most important designs included a sonnerie, the Gérald Genta Octo Granda Sonnerie Tourbillion, which has four gongs and rings the Westminster Quarters melody at each quarter and on the hour, 'the same melody rung out by London's Big Ben'. During the 1980s, Genta obtained special licensing with The Walt Disney Company and distributed a limited edition of Disney character watches to the public. The dials consisted of illustrations of Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Scrooge and Goofy, with cases made in gold. After his eponymous company was acquired by Bulgari, he created a new venture called Gerald Charles in 2001 and continued in his late years to devote himself to watch designing, still influencing today the contemporary watchmaking. Amongst Gérald Genta's clients were professional athletes, business executives, rock musicians, movie stars, politicians and world royalty, including Prince Rainier of Monaco, King Hassan II of Marocco, King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia of Spain, King Fahd of Saudi Arabia, King of Thailand and Queen Elisabeth of England.
