The West Frisian village Hoogwoud is situated between the cities of Hoorn and Alkmaar. The present pair of armorial stained glass windows were part of a larger number that were installed in the new church of Hoogwoud in 1680. The church was rebuilt after the old church was destroyed by the tornado of 1674. In 1879 the church administrators wanted to remove the armorial stained glass windows, at this time there were 17 windows. In 1988 a set of eleven windows from Hoogwoud were sold with Sotheby's Amsterdam.
