General Peter Heron (1770-1849) of Moor Hall, Cheshire commenced his military career as an Ensign in the 11th Foot in 1790 and obtained a Lieutenancy in 1793. In 1794 he received a company of the 90th Foot, and later the same year a Majority and a Lieutenant Colonelcy in the same regiment. In 1800 he received the brevet of Colonel and that of Brigadier General. In 1808 he was promoted to Major General and that of Lieutenant General in 1813. He served variously at Gibraltar and in Sicily.
