The breakarch hood with floral and banded inlays, glazed side panels, the trunk with canted angles inlaid with trailing flowers and flanking a door inlaid with a knight and a bird in a floral basket, later brass lenticle cast with a figure of Chronos, the plinth inlaid with heralds and flanked by projecting scroll angles, on carved feet, the 11in. cut-away brass dial with cherub and coronet spandrels to a silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring, silvered and engraved centre signed E. Smith/NEWARK above a subsidiary calendar ring, steel hands, the arch with two painted rocking ships, the four pillar movement with anchor escapement and rack strike on bell; case associated to dial and movement, case Dutch, movement and dial English, third quarter 18th century -- 91¾in.
