Cos d'Estournel has a vineyard of 54 hectares but no Château. As if to make up for this it has a most original and eye-catching pagoda-like chai built by M. Louis-Gaspard Destournel in the early 1820's and prominently situated just across the jalle from Château Lafite. Its more recent reputation was made by Bruno Prats. Though recently sold, for family reasons, Bruno's son Jean-Guillaume manages the property. MB
Château Cos d'Estournel--Vintage 2000
Saint-Estèphe, 2me cru classé. Château-bottled
This will be the first large format of Cos d'Estournel 2000 sold from the Château Reserve, since none have been sold en primeur.
An unquestionably good vintage. First tasted in cask the spring after the vintage: subtle, fragrant but low keyed; surprisingly sweet, delectable. Tannic of course. A wine with an excellent future, particularly in this 8-bottle bottle. MB
