The case with brass handle to the break-arch top decorated with brass-lined triple pads, later pierced brass trellis frets to the sides and on brass bracket feet, the dial signed Vulliamy London 586 within the foliate engraved arch and flanked by twin subsdidiary white enamel dials for regulation and strike/silent, the main white enamel chapter disc signed Vulliamy London with Roman and Arabic chapters with pierced blued steel hands, foliate spandrels, the later purpose-made movement of massive construction with six pillars and triple chain fusees, quarter chiming on eight bells and hour strike on a large gong, anchor escapement with snail-cam regulation astride the plates and suspending a steel-rod pendulum with holdfast to the centre of the back-plate beneath the signature engraved Payne & Co. 163.
