The bronze cast from a model by Theodore Rivière, Late 19th/Early 20th Century
Depicting the kneeling figure of Mathò passionately embracing the standing Salammbò, on a naturalistic base inscribed THEODORE-RIVIERE and with the foundry mark Susse Frs. Edt. inscribed and impressed in a roundel and with the title CARTHAGE, on a fluted red marble pedestal, the clock with circular dial incised with gilt Roman numerals, with twin-train movement with countwheel strike on a bell, on laurel-cast foot, octagonal base and flat feet
