The drum engraved with a portrait of William III with a crown and the crowned initials 'W.R.' the Royal supporters of a lion and unicorn to each side with a thistle and rose, the cover with a decoration of tulips and a row of four hallmarks, the touch inside base (O.P.1415a), with oak leaf thumbpiece and handle with spade terminal

Believed to be one of about nine recorded flat lids with portraits of William III alone, it can be compared with one in the V & A by the maker T.C. illustrated by Anthony North in Pewter at the Victoria and Albert Museum, No.66, and two in the Colonial Williamsburg, Nos. 236-37 by John Donne of James I and by William Eddon of William III.
Hornsby, Pewter of the Western World, pp. 259 illustrates the John Donne tankard from the Colonial Williamsburg Museum.
