The jar is well-enamelled and gilded with a vibrant scene of foreigners bearing tribute to an emperor seated under a canopy surrounded by lady attendants, watched on by officials and guards, as a monkey and a man coax a chained boar through the entrance of the balustraded landscaped garden, followed closely by two bearded foreigners presenting a caparisonned white elephant, and two other men in charge of a Buddhist lion, the cover decorated with children at play in a garden
