Compare boxes of this pattern, each with the reign marks written in a different format, the first illustrated in the Blue-and-white Ware of the Ming dynasty, Book VI, Cafa, Hong Kong, 1963, p. 43, pl. 7, where the reign mark is in two vertical lines within double rectangles; and two from the Falk Collection, sold in our New York Rooms, sale date of 16 October 2001, (Catalogue dated 20 September 2001) lots 144, where the reign mark is written in two lines within rectangles, and 145, in two lines without rectangles. Compare also a related box decorated with peony scrolls on the rounded sides offered in the present sale, lot 1090.
