WANLI SIX-CHARACTER MARK WITHIN A DOUBLE-CIRCLE AND OF THE PERIOD (1573-1619)

The dish is formed with eight bracket lobes at the everted mouth rim and traced with a double-line border on both sides, the interior painted with a central dragon roundel, repeated four times on a smaller scale around the exterior alternating with leafy arabesques

A dish of this floral mouthrim with a Jiajing six-character mark in the National Palace Museum, is illustrated in Blue-and-White Ware of the Ming Dynasty, Book V, Hong Kong, 1963, p. 75, no. 27, where each of the dragons is enclosed within a bracket lobed cartouche.
