These tables are based on a model by Adam Weisweiler (d.1820) for Marie-Antoinette at the Château de Saint-Cloud (illustrated in A. Pradère, French Furniture Makers: The Art of the Ebéniste from Louis XIV to the Revolution, Paris, 1989, p. 389). During the last quarter of the 19th century, the model was very much in fashion and was widely copied, both in exact and simplified versions, by Parisian cabinet-makers. An example by the Maison Fourdinois was shown at the Exposition des arts du bois organised in 1882 by the Union centrale des Arts Decoratifs.
