This celebrated model was designed by Hauré, cast by Forestier and chased by Thomire for the Château de St.Cloud. Trained as a sculptor, Jean Hauré was a member of the Académie de St. Luc and became a maître-fondeur making furniture and ormolu objets d'art for the Garde-Meuble de la Couronne from 1785-88. A pair of appliques of nearly identical design are in the Jones Collection in the Victoria and Albert Museum. A further set of four appliques are in the Wrightsman Collection in the Metropolitan Museum.
