An unusual Victorian mahogany and inlaid weight-driven wall timepiece, circa 1845
The rising hood with moulded cornice, hinged door with gilt-brass hook catches, recessed panels to the sides, geometric inlays to the door frame, brass bezel to the convex glass, rectangular trunk door with lozenge inlay to the lock, the white enamel Roman dial (chips and cracks) with upright chapters and crossed minute track, blued steel spade hands, the single train movement with four back-pinned pillars and rectangular plates, signed on the back plate W.J. Gardus, gut lines with verge escapement, the seatboard slotting into the cheekboards; with brass weight -- 35¾in. (91cm.) high
