In the form of an eight-petalled flower, the top deeply and finely carved in Yuan/early Ming style, with a design of two different birds in flight amidst lotus plants and water weeds, surrounded by eight panels of flower sprigs repeated on the sides and the sides of the box, all reserved against a gold ground, raised on a conforming foot carved with a band of key fret, the interior and base covered in black lacquer
