A MEISSEN SURTOUT-DE-TABLE modelled with four figures around a scrolling column, one side with a girl stretching out her arm to prevent a boy taking fruit from her basket, the other side with a seated man taking flowers from a girl to fill his basket, the column painted with a scene of figures on a shore-line before distant ships at sea, the reverse with a smaller scene of figures in a rural landscape, supporting a two-handled circular basket pierced with interlaced loops and painted on the interior with fruit, on a two-handled shaped oval tray painted with fruit within eight circular gilt wells, the moulded details enriched predominantly in pink and gilding (cracks to basket, chips to flowers and leaves), blue crossed swords mark, circa 1880
