Of shaped oval form, raised in front on two elaborate acanthus scroll supports, and behind on two baluster supports, the base repousse and chased with a border of acanthus and scroll vacant cartouches on a matted ground, enclosing bands on acanthus scrolls and bellflowers joining at the central raised oblong acanthus and flute pedestal supporting a freestanding figure of a Roman warrior, flanked by two circular ink pots flat-chased overall with acanthus scrolls on a matted ground, the hinged domed covers surmounted by a classical soldier's-head, the back with elaborate openwork acanthus scroll and laurel swag decoration enclosing a vacant asymmetrical cartouche and rising to an openwork acanthus scroll central standard supporting a waisted bell with similar flat-chased decoration, with similar Roman warrior's-head handle, marked under base, on ink pots, figure and bell--14 1/2in.
