AN ATTIC BLACK-FIGURE TYPE A "EYE" CUP

The convex bowl with continuous walls, a fillet between bowl and stem, a broad flat foot, and two handles, each side with two large eyes, each compass-drawn oculus with a red-dotted black disc in the center surrounded by black rings, a black nose between the eyes with added red on one side, traces of the added red on the other, a tear-shaped drop and small dots between the brows framing the eyes, with palmettes and tendrils below the handles, restored from fragments, minor losses, repainting along fractures, 4 5/8in. (11.7cm.) high, 8 1/2in. (21.6cm.) diam. excluding handles
