AN ETRUSCAN BRONZE CISTA FOOT
Circa Late 6th Century B.C.
In the form of Herakles and Iolaus battling the Hydra, the nude hero to the left and his friend to the right, their advancing legs on the Hydra's body, their clubs raised, both grasping one of the Hydra's seven heads, other of the Hydra heads coiled around and biting the attackers, below the scene, an abacus supported by an Ionic capital above a lion's paw, 3 1/2in. (8.9cm.) high
