1858, three documents from the Perkins Bacon records, the first to Mr. Bokenham ordering fifteen postmarks for use in the West Indies, together with postscript on reverse ordering "black composition for obliterating the stamps". The second document is various notes and instructions, including one saying that the ink may become thick owing to the climate, and will need to be thinned with oil. One note confirms "the supply will be sent by the Mail of the 2nd of the Month, April 24, 1858". The third doucument is a proof sheet (damaged and water stained) showing impressions of the fifteen obliterators in red (the "A06" crossed by filing crease and the "A08" crossed by repaired tear). A remarkable group. Photo
