Including a view of the photographer's house in Jaunpur, 1861; a scene with a camera and photographic van in the foreground; views of temples; decoratively carved gateways; a Buddhist shrine near Jaunpur; Government college, Benares; views of Mosques, 'Mahommedan ruins near St. John's Church, Trichinopoly', 'Unfinished tomb. Pimja Shareef. Juanpoor'; bridges and a few garden studies. Some views of the Buddhist stupa at Sanchi are by James Waterhouse (see also lots 284 and 348). The reference to Dannenberg suggests that Tresham may have made a print from a negative loaned by the photographer J. E. C. Dannenberg.
D. Tresham was the Headmaster of the Government Normal School in Benares in the 1860s and a keen amateur photographer. Engravings from his photographs appear in M. A. Sherring, The Sacred City of the Hindus (London, 1868).
