Album containing twenty-one gelatin silver prints, 8¼ x 11 1/8 in., seventeen signed Holmes and the majority numbered between 1 and 36 in the negatives, titled in ink on mounts, inscribed Third Afghan War 1919... in pencil on front blank, half red calf, ruled in gilt, 4to.

Views of various military camps including the 'Ali Musjid Camp', the Landi Khana Camp and the Dakka Camp; the Khyber Pass; 'a Jirgah in the Khaiber'; a group portrait of the Afghan delegates arriving at a peace conference; and two images of 2nd Battalion Somerset L.I. returning to Peshawar.

R.B. Holmes was a commercial photographer who continued the photographic business established by his father William D. Holmes in Peshawar in the 1890s. The firm continued until the 1940s and was best known for views on the North-West Frontier as well as being official photographers to the Afghan Campain of 1919.
