拍卖简介
Christie’s is honoured to present Art of Collecting: A Pacific Island Connoisseur of Art and Design, a private collection that weaves a thread of commonality between Post-War and Contemporary Art, Design and Photography. Highlights of the collection touch upon hallmarks of 20th century painting, ranging from Josef Albers’s Double Homage to the Square to the graphic iconography of Robert Indiana’s Nine from 1965. Bold, cinematic photography by Paul Outerbridge speak to black-and-white prints by Hiroshi Sugimoto and Herb Ritts. Robert Mapplethorpe’s Flowers coexists with Ossicle floor lamps by Alberto Giacometti. Set among the atmosphere of a bespoke house and high tropical gardens in the Pacific, the natural environment enhances the experience of living with art in an extra-sensory way. As if designed in concert with each other, Charlotte Perriand’s iconic Bibliotheque is juxtaposed with an Untitled diptych by Carmen Herrera. Tiffany Studio’s organic lines lead the eye to exceptional Danish-built lounge chairs. Nakashima’s mastery of wood shines among metaphysical ceramics by Georges Jouve. The Art of Collecting: A Pacific Island Connoisseur of Art and Design is a unique opportunity for collectors of all kinds to consider the shared language spoken across diverse media, geographies, and keystone moments of artistic expression of the 20th century.
