Henri Delobel, father of the goldsmith Jean Delobel (see lot 125), registered his poinçon in 1748 and was received maître on 14 January 1756. This early box of his was retailed by Jean-François Garand, who was also a talented goldsmith. His shop "A l'Observatoire" on the Pont Notre-Dame must have been very successful as Garand was a supplier of the Menus-Plaisirs du Roi from 1762.
