A Staffordshire saltglaze bear-jug and cover
Circa 1760
Covered in chipped clay to resemble fur, the body of the bear forming the jug, with a short tail, short back paws and raising itself on long forepaws with toes picked out in brown slip, the bear's head forming the jug cover, its gaping snout pierced with two chain links, the eyes in brown slip and the neck with a collar decorated with brown slip flowerheads (chain links restored replacements, restored chips to rim of cover, to one ear and tip of snout)
