Vianney Halter's Deep Space Tourbillon is among the most outstandingly creative products of modern independent watchmaking. Few contemporary timepieces can match its uniqueness. The watch blends cutting-edge design with astounding technical ingenuity, motivated by Halter's extraordinary horological talent and inspired by his love of science fiction. The Deep Space Tourbillon is an amazing feat of engineering and design, with its rising domed crystal and captivating motion of its mechanical architecture.
Any indication of a conventional dial has been replaced beneath the large crystal by what looks to be a dynamic mechanical landscape. The triple-axis tourbillon, which rotates every 40 seconds, completes another rotational cycle every six minutes, and simultaneously gyrates over a thirty-minute cycle, dominates the scene with its continuously changing motion. Halter's interpretation of the tourbillon, which was initially designed to counteract the effects of gravity in pocket watches, turns it into a dynamic sculpture where artistic expression and technical functionality coexist harmoniously.
Since much of the movement is already visible from the front, the reverse side features a titanium caseback engraved with the Deep Space motif. Inside beats the in-house manual-winding calibre VH113, offering a power reserve of approximately 55 hours. The end product is a watch that not only pushes the limits of mechanical watchmaking but also exemplifies the creative spirit that characterizes independent high watchmaking.
