Of bombé form, the brèche d'Alep marble top above two drawers mounted with pierced ormolu cartouches, pulls and rocaille escutcheons, the pierced angle-mounts over cabriole legs with scrolling acanthus sabots, stamped 'PRETOT' and spuriously stamped 'B.V.R.B. JME', the underside inscribed 'J KIM 18'

The ébéniste Hippolyte-Edmé Pretot (1812-1855) is recorded at 16, rue de l'Abbaye in 1836 and 11bis, rue Saint-Germain-des-Prés in 1841. From 1846 he was located at 3 and 5 rue du Harlay. He presided over an active Parisian atelier which exhibited at the 1849 Exposition Nationale and the London exhibition of 1851, being awarded a second class medal for his inlaid work at the latter.
