Yellow jades were considered as the rarest among nephrite jades of various tones. The innate value of yellow jades in the eyes of connoisseurs throughout time is best exemplified in the book Zun sheng ba jian, written by the late Ming scholar Gao Lian, where he in the fifth chapter mentions: 'People now cherish white jade and they set little store by yellow jade, which is nothing but a sign of poor judgement.'
It is very rare to find jade vases of this pure yellow colour and lines, what the Chinese connoisseurs call 'autumn mallow' or qiukui.
