The rounded mid-section of the vessel is cast in intaglio with two taotie masks centered on narrow flanges and is set between bowstring bands encircling the bottom of the plain trumpet-shaped neck and the top of the plain spreading foot. An inscription, which includes a bird, is cast inside the foot. The patina is of brownish color and there is some light malachite encrustation.

The inscription cast inside the foot of this gu includes a bird, possibly a clan sign, oriented above three graphs, two of which read, Yi fu (Father Yi). The third graph may possibly read, bei (cowry).
