Compare the very similar ding of slightly smaller size (19 cm.) illustrated by Chen Peifen in Ancient Chinese Bronzes in the Shanghai Museum, Beijing, 1995, p. 30, no. 3, which is dated to the late Xia period, and where the decoration is described as cloud pattern.
