EMDEN, 1637, MAKER'S MARK ATM IN MONOGRAM ATTRIBUTED TO AYELT MENDRICH
Tapering cylindrical, on spreading foot, the stem and body junction with rope-twist band, the foot chased with winged cherubim, fruit and strapwork, the stem finely engraved with a stag and a hare hunt, the body with a feasting scene flanked by an allegorical cherubim holding a winged hour-glass symbolising the passing of the time and the seated figure of Justice symbolising the Judgement Day, further engraved above with vases of flowers hung between with fruit garlands and birds, engraved with two vacant shields, the base inset with a coin encircled by an inscription, marked below rim

The inscription reads 'ALS GODT BE HAGET IST BETER BE NIT ALS BEKLAGET'.
The coin is a 1624 Thaler of Count Wolfgang Georg of Stolberg (1615-1631).
