The finely potted vessel is naturalistically shaped in the form of a melon, with an imperial poem inscribed to the bulbous body in gilt. The shoulder of the jarlet is decorated with a band of ruyi-heads, with upright petal lappets rising above the foot. The vessel is covered overall in a pale celadon glaze, with eight spur marks to the base.
