Lot Essay

Elements of Thomire's neo classical oeuvre are exhibited in this distinctive pair of signed tazze, specifically the acanthus volutes terminating in floriated roundels, the unique foliate wreath, anthemion motifs and lion paws feet. They are closely related to a set of sweetmeat dishes, sold Sotheby's, New York, 24 May 2007, lot 23, and to a pair of porte coupes, signed 'THOMIRE A PARIS', sold Sotheby's, Paris, 25 June 2003, lot 138, which also display these characteristic motifs.
