Please note that the present work is possibly the untraced version, listed by Mannings (Sir Joshua Reynolds: A Complete Catalogue of his Paintings, New Haven and London, 2000, p. 542), that was sold in the Greenwood's sale, 16 April 1796, lot 57.

The present work is after the picture in a private collection, and possibly the version that Mannings refers to as a "very competent studio copy" (D. Mannings, Sir Joshua Reynolds: A Complete Catalogue of his Paintings, New Haven and London, 2000, p. 542, no. 2100a).
