A LOUIS XIV PEWTER-INLAID AMARANTH AND EBONISED BOULLE MARQUETRY MEUBLE A DEUX CORPS

Decorated overall with strapwork and stylised scroling foliage, the rectangular cresting above a cushion-shaped frieze and an architectural facade with twelve walnut-lined drawers arranged around a central cupboard door, decorated with a pair of birds and enclosing a stage-set tromp l'oye interior with mirrored sides and a parquetry floor enclosing eleven secret drawers, the sides centred by masks within similarly strapwork and scrolling foliage-decorated fields, the base with a frieze fitted with two drawers and a pair of doors, centred with ovals depicting Meleager and Diana respectively, each with their hounds, and enclosing a plain interior, the sides decorated accordingly, on later turned feet, restorations and some replacements to veneers and marquetry
