Tapering rectangular, with scarlet and gilt panels in gilt and black borders, the front with a verre-églomisé panel depicting young lovers standing before a tree with a plaque labelled 'Serment d'aimer', the back with an altar of Love, labelled 'ils sont purs' supporting two hearts within a floral arch, the hinged cover with two panels, one labelled 'Souvenir' the other labelled 'D'amitié', the sides with similarly coloured plain panels, each within foliate and ribbon borders, inside three-leaved ivory tablets and steel scissors
