Although not based on a specific design, this console relates to the work of Jean Charles Delafosse (1734 - 89/91). The central rosette, cartouche and floral garlands to the frieze are typical in style of design elements found in his two-volume book of designs, Nouvelle Iconologie Historique ou Attributs Hiérogliphiques, Paris, first published in 1768 and reissued in various editions in 1771, 1773, 1776 and 1785. Delafosse's designs were extremely influential in disseminating the Neoclassical style throughout Europe.
