About 1568 Jan Emens began to structure his vessels more strictly and gave the belly a much rounder shape which was setting it off more clearly from the foot and the neck. This was the beginning of the classical period of Raeren stoneware, which was essentially dominated by Jan Emens. Cf. M.Kohnemann, Auflagen auf Raerener Steinzeug (Sankt Vith 1982) p.60 and p.90 for both the coat-of-arms.
