A Berlin cup and saucer
Circa 1780, underglaze blue sceptre marks, saucer with Pressnummer 26 (?)
Painted with theatrical scenes after Rousseau, the cup with two oval medallions, one with a winged putto holding an inscribed open book, the other with Minerva by two ladies in a courtly interior, each edged eith garlands of flowers and suspended by a ribbon from a gilt and pink border with flower-sprays at intervals bound by ribbons and suspending a further tied garland, the entwined branch handle with gilt foliage terminals, the saucer with a similar large circular medallion with a gallant and companion on a terrace before an formal garden within a similar border, gilt line rims (the saucer with section to rim broken and restored, some restoration to centre of underside, two short hairline cracks from rim, slight rubbing to rims of both pieces)
