A Berlin blue-ground coffee-can and saucer emblematic of Spring
Circa 1800, underglaze blue sceptre and iron-red painter's 2. marks, cup with incised /// 5 (?), saucer with impressed 6 (?) //
The can painted with a pastoral scene of a boy carrying a basket of fish on his head and a mother and child holding a basket of foliage between them in a landscape within a gilt bordered oval cartouche chased with a ribbon and with gilt foliage scrolls extending across the ground, the angular handle and rims enriched in gilding, the saucer inscribed le Printems. in iron-red within an oval gilt cartouche, the ground with further gilt foliage scrolls and a gilt line rim (slight flake to inner gilt line rim on saucer)
