[LINCOLN, ABRAHAM]. GOODWIN, WILLIAM F. Printed document accomplished and signed as Librarian of the New-Hampshire Historical Society to A. Lincoln, Concord, New Hampshire, 18 August 1860. 1 page, 4to, with a decorative wood engraving at top of "Duston's Island." "The New-Hampshire Historical Society acknowledges the receipt from you of one copy of 'Political Debates.'" In a postscript, the Librarian adds: "Can't you send us a 'Rail'"(possibly referring to The Rail Mauler, a campaign newsletter of the period or one of the better known newspapers entitled The Rail Splitter). The book Lincoln had contributed to the institution was undoubtedly a copy of the recently published edition of Political Debates between Hon. Abraham Lincoln and Hon. Stephen A. Douglas in the Celebrated Campaign of 1858 (Columbus, 1860).
