Clovis Edmond Masson (d.1913) was born in Paris and studied under Santiago, Barye and Rouillard. He exhibited at the Salon from 1867 to 1881 and subsequently at the Salon des Artistes Français, winning an honourable mention in 1890. He was best known as an animalier, the present model of a retriever being a good example of such work.
