Isidore Jules Bonheur (1827-1901) initilly studied sculpture and modelling under his father, Raymond Bonheur, before enrolling at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in 1849. He produced many small bronzes of a variety of subjects and often, as in this instance, these were cast by his brother-in-law, Hippolyte Peyrol.
