This design is inspired by a group of Sèvres blue-ground porcelain vases with ormolu mounts tentatively attributed to Pierre-Philippe Thomire (1751-1843). Recorded examples seem often to have been purchased by the marchand-mercier Daguerre and drawings for the vases are inscribed with his name in the archives. A single mounted vase is in the Wallace Collection and is illustrated in R.Savill, Catalogue of Sèvres Porcelain, London, 1988, p.479, C342. Among the other mounted examples are a pair at Harewood House, Yorkshire, and a pair that were sold anonymously, in these Rooms, 8 April 1976, lot 13
