2 works in three parts in one volume, 2° in 8s and 6s (266 x 173mm.). Gothic letter. First title, calendar and a few other leaves printed in red and black. First work with titles within wide borders composed of typographic ornaments, the second with title within elaborate architectonic border. Numerous woodcut initials and decorations (first work: some headlines and printed marginalia shaved, small tears in margins of title, a2 and M1). Near-contemporary black morocco gilt, covers panelled with floral cornerpieces, spine in six compartments with raised bands, lettered in one, the others with overall symetrical design composed from various small tools including flowerheads and punches. Provenance: Lawrence Crawford (1611-1645, inscription 'Ex libris Laurentiis Crawfurd de Jordanhill'); Francis Buchanan (armorial bookplate); Arthur Kay (etched bookplate by Kate Cameron).
First work: A FINE COPY of the second edition of the first Scottish prayer book with mixed first and second settings. kk6v without catchword, hh3 in uncancelled state. STC 16607. Second work (a metrical version of the Psalms) is largely the work of W.Alexander, Earl of Stirling. STC 2736.
