A PAIR OF FRENCH PINK-GROUND BALUSTER VASES of tapering form, painted with continuous friezes of mythological figures in wooded landscapes, one with a nymph and a youth in a close embrace attended by cherubs bearing an engraved stone slab, the other with cherubs at a waterfall offering a goblet of water to a nymph and a youth, the reverses with ruins, the scenes enclosed within horizontal ciselé gilt bands below flared necks and spreading circular feet edged in gilding (one with small chip to inside of foot-rim, slight wear to gilding), incised t. 230, circa 1860
